The only female nominee for Supreme Court Anisa Rasouli has been rejected by Wolesi Jirga or the Lower House of Parliament.
Anisa Rasouli who holds a degree in Law and Political Science from the University of Kabul was introduced to Wolesi Jirga for formal procedures by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani to get membership of the Supreme Court of Afghanistan but she could not receive the vote of confidence on Wednesday’s session.
193 legislators were present at the session of the Wolesi Jirga and Rasouli needed 97 votes to get through the process and become the first ever judge within the supreme court of Afghanistan but unfortunately she could not receive the specified set of votes.
She received 83 red and 88 green ticks which did not complete the 50+1 limit for confidence of the house.
Zahir Qadir who was chairing the session asked government to introduce another female nominee for a vote of confidence for the membership of the Supreme Court.
